When we were searching for a good supplier for our coffee offerings, we stumbled upon George Howell’s Terroir Coffee Company, a small roaster based in Massachusetts. The more we learned about George Howell’s history and his passion to find the finest beans from all over the world, the more intrigued we were!

After he sold The Coffee Connection, a chain of 24 coffee shops, to Starbucks almost twenty years ago, George Howell continued to pursue his vision to find the best quality of coffee beans all over the world. Along the way, he cofounded The Cup of Excellence, a competition in which coffee farmers compete to produce the best beans. The winning results were outstanding beans that were carefully grown and hand-picked from the perfect combination of altitude, climate, and regions.

After three decades of unearthing the pure flavors of coffee, George realized that in addition to the quality of beans, roasting process and freshness are key to make a great cup of coffee. He roasts lightly to allow the beans to exhibit their natural sweetness. Over-roasting, popular practice done by large coffee shop chains, overpowers the coffee’s complex aromas and flavors and often leaves a bitter aftertaste.

To ensure freshness, George Howell Coffee Company uses a unique storage system that “halts” the raw beans’ natural aging process at their peak maturity, preserving their natural sweetness. This is a world innovation, while expensive and time-consuming, it produces unsurpassed freshness.

We at Batavia are thrilled to offer George Howell’s coffees. We have not met any coffee supplier that has gone to these great lengths for the sake of quality. Our job is to offer you these beautiful handcrafted coffees and serve them the way they are supposed to be served. We believe in providing customers only with the freshest brew of coffee beans.

What separates us from other coffee houses, is our preparation process.  When you order the coffee, we will brew in front of you with a pour-over process where the coffee stays true to its taste and the freshest it could be.  You will enjoy and appreciate coffee the way it should be served.  If you have not tried this, we promise you will be hooked!
